Specimen #1029
Taxon: Plicochonetes? arkansanus (Mather)
Locality: Dotsero, Eagle County, CO
Age: Pennsylvanian
Rock unit: Belden Formation
Collector: W. Itano

This is the pedicle valve of a small brachiopod which seems to be identical to the one called Plicochonetes? arkansanus (Mather) in P. K. Sutherland and F. H. Harlow (1973) "Pennsylvanian brachiopods and biostratigraphy in Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, New Mexico," Memoir 27, New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources. The question mark reflects some uncertainty on their part as to the genus. It differs from other chonetids in having coarse radial ribs, a highly inflated umbo, and absolutely no sulcus. The original name was Chonetes arkansanus. (Width 9 mm.)
